Ale Pedroza, who lives in Orlando, Florida, took to TikTok to share his tips with his 47,500 followers.
He talked about “what not to do on a plane,” and urged travelers not to sleep before leaving the tarmac.
In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 624,000 times, Ale wastes little time delving into his ideas.
‘Let’s talk about things you shouldn’t do on a plane, coming from a flight attendant.
‘The first tip is to try not to fall asleep before takeoff. I know traveling can be exhausting and sometimes all you want to do is get on a plane and go straight to sleep.
“So not only is it not good for your ears to fall asleep before takeoff, but you must also remember that taxiing is one of the most crucial phases of flights.
“You have to make sure you are fully conscious and fully awake in case of an emergency or in case you have to evacuate.”
But Ale, who has been in the industry for almost 10 years, did not stop there with his advice and added: ‘The next thing is not to consume your own alcohol. It is against federal relations to consume your own alcohol because we must make sure you are drinking responsibly.
‘And if you’re drinking your own alcohol, we can’t really track it. “It’s a federal issue, not an airline issue.”
Last but not least, he concluded: ‘One of the most obvious is not to walk barefoot on any airline or on any plane.
‘If you decide to take off your shoes at your seat, that’s a different story, but don’t go into the bathroom barefoot.
“You never know what you’re stepping on and the ground isn’t always the cleanest.”
Their invaluable knowledge was soon inundated with comments from viewers who admitted they were guilty of sleeping before being on air.
One person wrote: “OMG I fall asleep instantly… but I justify it by saying I’m an incredibly light sleeper and my instincts know when to wake me up.”
A second person added: “If I don’t fall asleep before takeoff, I won’t be sleeping.” But I can usually sleep through the entire flight if I fall asleep as soon as I sit down lol.’
Another commented: “I try to sleep before takeoff because my anxiety is very high during takeoff and landing.”
Someone else admitted: “I sleep better before takeoff, especially during taxi.”
According Travel + Leisure: ‘It is best to stay awake until after takeoff for two reasons: ear barotrauma and evacuation safety.
Their valuable viewing was soon inundated with comments from viewers who admitted they were guilty of sleeping before being on air.
Ear barotrauma, also known as airplane ear, is stress that builds up in the ear due to differences in air pressure between the environment and the inner ear.
‘This imbalance can cause the eardrum to bulge painfully.
‘There’s a second reason why you shouldn’t take a nap during takeoff and landing, and it has to do with your safety.
“If you are asleep when an emergency occurs, it may take you some time to orient yourself and react appropriately, and that could be a problem.”
Ale’s idea comes amid the ongoing debate over airplane etiquette, with passengers recently complaining about seat-swapping tactics as well as “oversized seatmates.”
