A woman has been charged with allegedly kidnapping a child from a Melbourne primary school in a terrifying incident on Friday morning.
Police allege the woman, 35, entered Fitzroy Primary School on George Street in the inner suburb of Fitzroy and abducted a five-year-old girl at around 9am
He walked with the boy to Atherton Gardens on Brunswick Street, a distance of about 600 metres.
They were discovered by a member of the public, who called police about 9.40am, detectives said.
The woman was arrested without incident.

The boy suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital in stable condition for evaluation.
The primary school immediately called police when it became aware of the “disturbing incident”, a Department of Education spokesperson said.
The woman, who has no fixed address, has been charged with child theft and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court tonight.
