Andre Stiles and his friend Dean Overall-Jones got into trouble after going fishing at Flat Rock, Claravale, west of Katherine earlier this week.
Mr Stiles sent an emergency text message to his ex-girlfriend on Tuesday evening which read: ‘Please call 000, I’m stuck in Flat Rock near Edith Farms, I’ve been here for days without water or food.”
“I haven’t received reception, call 000, I’m not kidding, help me.”
She passed the message on to Mr Stiles’ relatives before his father Mark and brother Nathan rushed to the area on Tuesday evening in a desperate but unsuccessful attempt to find the two men.
When they returned to the scene on Wednesday morning, they managed to find Mr Stiles and Mr Overall-Jones alive but “extremely dehydrated”.
Another ex-partner of Mr Stiles and the mother of his child, Bobbie Toy, said the couple’s car had broken down.
“They were both fine in the long run, thank God,” she told the NT News.
“I’m a motherfucker, I was up most of the night.”
