A fundraiser for the family of a boy who died when a car crashed into his school has surpassed $120,000, as a center to support the community is created, as the father speaks.
A dedicated center is being created to support a community devastated by a school accident that claimed the life of one child and left four other children in hospital, as fundraising surpassed $120,000.
Jack Davey, an 11-year-old fifth-grade student, died on the way to the hospital after a car crashed through a fence and into a school yard Tuesday afternoon, striking a group of Auburn South students sitting at a table. .
Two 11-year-old girls, a 10-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were seriously injured and taken to hospital.
The driver, a 40-year-old woman and recent holder of a P license plate, had just picked up her son from school in Melbourne’s east and was making a U-turn when it was learned she suffered a medical episode before crossing the fence
The Hawthorn East mother was arrested and released after police questioning, with no charges laid.
7NEWS reports that the woman had attended a two-hour meeting at the school before the accident, but details about the meeting are still unclear.
Jack’s father paid a heartfelt tribute to his son on Thursday morning.
‘Our beautiful son. A shooting star that blessed us for 11 years with love, friendship and kindness. You were my inspiration and motivation. I can’t understand the life I have ahead of me without you. My partner, my champion, my Jackie-boi. Good luck, until we meet again… I love you.’
The local council has organized a community support center in a nearby park which will be open from Thursday Sunday.
“We invite community members to come together and access support and referral services during this difficult time,” the City of Boroondara posted on social media.
Jack Davey, 11, suffered critical injuries when he was hit by the Toyota SUV while sitting on a bench outside Auburn South Primary School in Melbourne’s east on Tuesday afternoon.
Jack has been remembered by his local football club as the school community mourns his loss.

A fundraiser for the Davey family had grown to more than $120,000 by Thursday morning.
Organizer Lucy Pristel described Jack as a valued member of the Titans basketball community and the Gladiators football club, as well as an enthusiastic indoor soccer player.
The money is intended to help the family with expenses related to the loss of their child and allow them to take time off from work.
On Wednesday, Auburn South principal Marcus Wicher said there had been an “overwhelming” response since the tragedy, with a remarkable display of courage and care.
“This school community is so wonderful and strong and together we will get through this,” Mr. Wicher told reporters.
The school is open and additional support services are available, including additional teachers from neighboring schools, as well as pastoral and counseling services.
