Dr. Ronny Jackson rushed to Bedminster, New Jersey, to visit Donald Trump after Saturday’s assassination attempt. Now, he reports that the wound on his ear is still bleeding, but should heal properly.
The Texas lawmaker told DailyMail.com that Trump’s wound continues to bleed occasionally and requires a bandage that the former president could continue to wear for a few days, even as the Republican convention gets underway.
Jackson, who served as a White House physician during the Trump years, said he flew to the president’s golf course to visit Trump after Saturday’s horrific shooting.
“I came because we’re friends. I wanted to be there,” he told DailyMail.com. “We just hung out.” He spent time with Trump in a personal capacity, but that didn’t stop him from making a full assessment of his injury and mental state after an incident that could easily have ended his life. Now Trump and Jackson are in Milwaukee.
Jackson said Trump’s ear still bleeds from time to time, in part because there is so much blood flowing into it. He said the wound will remain bandaged for at least a couple more days.
“He took a piece of his ear off the top, you know, the ear bleeds a lot. But he’s OK. Because luckily, it was just his ear,” he said at the Fiserve Center, hours before the convention opened.

Trump did not opt for stitches, he said. “No, he didn’t stitch it up because it wasn’t really suitable for stitching because it was a bullet. So it was more like a wound. So they basically had to let it heal,” said the Texan, who has become a defender of Trump and a harsh critic of President Joe Biden.
“Everything will look good once it’s filled in and everything else,” he predicted.
Trump’s use of the bandage was more due to the ear itself than the severity of the wound, he said, although a matter of a minuscule distance would have led to a catastrophic injury.
‘Probably (keep the bandage in place) because it’s also very flexible and it bleeds very easily. The ear is very vascular and if you irritate it a little bit, it starts bleeding again. So when it bleeds, it spreads everywhere. So now it has a bandage on because it’s been bleeding, so yeah.
He indicated that it would remain on for a couple of days.
The ear is very “vascular,” meaning it can bleed “like crazy” when pierced, Jackson said.
Jackson flew to Bedminster, New Jersey, to be with Trump after the shooting.

Jackson also commented on Trump’s mental state. “He’s doing great. The staff is still a little shaken up. But he’s completely normal,” she said.
“I mean, he’s just himself. He’s joking around and talking about how if he hadn’t turned his head, you know, right then it would have crossed his mind and he realizes, you know, the gravity of it, but he doesn’t get nervous at all.”
Trump has said he plans to rewrite his convention speech, and both Trump and President Joe Biden are calling for unity — Biden in an appeal from the Oval Office.
That doesn’t mean Jackson plans to stop criticizing what he calls Biden’s cognitive issues. Asked what he’d talk about, he said, “Probably Biden’s cognitive issues. That seems to be my topic,” he joked.
He said the call for unity was “right.”
“But we can’t ignore the fact that we have a president who doesn’t need to be president, you know?” he said. “I haven’t rewritten my speech.”
