Neil Fox looked a far cry from his former self as he debuted a dapper new look at the Reality TV Awards at Porchester Hall in London on Wednesday night.

The 63-year-old former Pop Idol judge, better known as Doctor Fox, beamed as he walked down the red carpet after shaving off his thick beard.

Neil also styled his salt and pepper hair in spikes and wore a sleek tailored black suit to the chic event instead of his usual more casual attire.

The DJ presented The Chase’s Shaun Wallace and Anne Hegerty with the award for Best Game Show and then playfully posed with the pair.

Neil rose to fame on the airwaves before becoming a judge on ITV’s Pop Idol alongside Simon Cowell, Nicky Chapman and Pete Waterman from 2001 to 2003.

The talent show made stars out of Will Young, Gareth Gates, Michelle McManus and the late Darius Campbell Danesh.

Neil previously revealed that he had lost weight after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The father of three said MirrorIt’s a mix of lifestyle, exercise and diet. I’m 59 years old and have three beautiful children and I want to live a long time.

Neil revealed that his wife Vicky, who is a yoga teacher, researched other ways to cure diabetes besides the prescription metformin, which reduces the sugar the liver releases into the blood.

But some studies show that people with type 2 diabetes can reverse the disease by losing a lot of weight.

Neil had previously tried reverse dieting, but during lockdown, with diabetes patients at higher risk of contracting coronavirus, he decided to cut out carbs and reduce his calorie count.

He said: ‘I considered the things I was eating to be normal and started to treat them as treats. I stopped eating white rice, bread, white pasta, potatoes, pizza and chips. I also stopped drinking alcohol. I have a beer now and then, but not two or three.

“I’ve been on the diet for three weeks and I feel much better. If you cut out all the white carbs, your stomach becomes flatter immediately.”

Neil, who lives in London with his wife Vicky and children Scarlet, 23, Jack, 20, and Martha, 17, has taken up meditating and cycling regularly.

Neil, who was one of the country’s most popular DJs in the 1990s, was embroiled in a court case over historical sexual offences charges in 2014.

The star was found not guilty of all charges, but believes the experience negatively affected her health.
