Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star Gautam Gambhir will welcome his old franchise playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. Ahead of the high-profile encounter, Karthik gave his verdict on the key matches for the encounter between Knight Riders and Royal Challengers, leaving Gambhir and Kohli on the verge of picking his match number one in the match. Karthik’s comment refers to what happened between the two former India teammates during a clash between RCB and Lucknow Super Giants.
Kohli and Gambhir had famously clashed after an initial on-field altercation between RCB stalwart and LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq. Gambhir then intervened, backed Naveen and ended up getting into a heated exchange with Kohli.
The IPL 2023 saga became perhaps the most talked about topic of the event. Karthik jokingly expects Kohli vs Gambhir 2.0 when KKR play RCB on Friday evening.
“Virat Kohli vs Gautam Gambhir (smiles). Mitchell Starc vs Glenn Maxwell will be very interesting. Varun Chakravarthy for me (Dinesh Karthik) will be very interesting,” Karthik said in RCB’s match preview on Friday, March 29.

“It’s not about Naveen-ul-Haq. I would have defended any player, that’s my job, that’s who I am. Why shouldn’t I defend my players just because someone has a broadcaster working for him, left right and centre” Someone who is more present on social media does not have the right to walk over anyone. If I can’t stand with my players, then I have no right to be in that dressing room,” Gambhir had said about the infamous on-field incident a while back.
While Kohli and Naveen have already settled their differences when India and Afghanistan faced each other in a T20 international a few months ago, the same cannot be said with certainty about Gambhir and the RCB star.
