Demi Lovato recalled a painful memory from her childhood in Hulu’s new documentary Child Star, premiering September 17.

In a trailer for the upcoming documentary, the 32-year-old Disney alum claimed that some of her former classmates signed “a suicide petition saying” she “should kill herself.”

She did not reveal the names of those “popular girls” who, according to her, encouraged her to take her life.

The film, which is Lovato’s directorial debut, was co-directed with The 12th Victim director Nicola Marsh.

Raven-Symoné, Christina Ricci, Alyson Stoner and Kenan Thompson also shared their struggles as young actors in Child Star.

Lovato, who shared her story of drug use and abuse that began at a young age in the 2021 documentary Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, appears to be righting some wrongs as she speaks to former colleagues.

“When we first spoke on the phone, you said, ‘I was on your show,'” the La La Land singer told Symoné, 38, admitting, “I don’t even remember anything I was on.”

The MTV Music Video Award winner also convinced her Camp Rock co-star Alyson Stoner, 31, to take part in the project.

The two hadn’t been in touch for years, and Lovato agreed to sit down for a “healing” conversation with Stoner before appearing on camera, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I remember the feeling of walking on eggshells,” Stoner said in the trailer.

“I’m truly so sorry,” Lovato responded.

Of that time in her life, Lovato told THR, “I think I had passed the threshold of what I could handle emotionally and physically,” in what the actress said she now understands as a response to trauma.

“And I didn’t realize that child stardom could be traumatic, and it’s not for everyone, but for me it was,” she explained, realizing that her behavior had consequences for others.

“I think about the people in the costume department on my TV show because I was in a bad mood all the time,” she said.

“I’m concerned about the guest stars that appeared or the other actors or the people during Camp Rock 2,” he told the outlet.

“And it’s easy to excuse that behavior because I was so young and I suffered a lot, but I truly regret it, and that’s a guilt that stays with you forever.”
