Cate Blanchett talks about how little she actually made filming the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The 55-year-old Australian actress was promoting her highly-anticipated film Borderlands on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday with co-star Gina Gershon.
He took part in a game called Plead the 5th, when host Andy Cohen asked him which movie had earned him the biggest payday, and he guessed The Lord of the Rings, in which he played the elf Galadriel.
Blanchett was stunned and said: “Are you kidding? No, nobody got paid anything to make that movie.”
Asked by Cohen if she received “a share of the profits” from the trilogy that grossed more than $2 billion worldwide, Blanchett said: “No!That was way before all that, nothing. I wanted to work with the guy who did Brain Dead. I mean, I basically got free sandwiches and got to keep my ears.
