Cate Blanchett has revealed why she lost faith in religion after the death of her father Robert.
The Australian actress, 54, who was just 10 when her father died of a heart attack, turned to religion in the hope it would bring her closer to him.
But when she soon realized that wouldn’t happen, Cate fled the church and spent her childhood in the wilderness.
speaking to Sunday weather, said: ‘When I was a child I wanted a religion. I wanted the strong hand of God to put a hand on my childish shoulders to say “your father is with me. He’s having fun. You’ll see him in 60 years.”
‘But that didn’t happen. And so, when I was ten, I ran away from the church and moved to the river and spent my childhood driven toward nature.

“If I’d stayed inside the Methodist church, I would have played the guitar really badly, but instead I rode my bike, thinking I was Nancy Drew, by the Yarra River.”
His late father married his mother June Share Cate, as well as a younger brother and a younger sister.
While the loss of her father caused further heartbreak, Cate’s elementary school teacher previously admitted that it instilled in her a “fierce work ethic and a burning sense of responsibility.”
Her admission comes after she dismissed rumors about the state of her marriage when she stepped out with husband Andrew Upton in London on Thursday.
The couple looked in good spirits as they attended a special event featuring her role as creative director of alcohol brand Toku Saké.
Cate shares sons Roman, 19, Dashiell, 21, and Ignatius, 15, as well as adopted daughter Edith, eight, with Andrew, 57, whom she married in 1997.
Rumors of marital problems emerged when Cate was seen on several occasions without her wedding ring.
Cate, who has been married to playwright Andrew since 1997, left fans baffled after turning up at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards without her ring.
But when she soon realized that wouldn’t happen, Cate “fled the church and spent her childhood in the wilderness.”

She stunned at the British film industry event in a maroon Louis Vuitton dress and eye-catching body chain combo.
However, instead of wearing her white gold and diamond wedding sparkler, the Blue Jasmine star rocked a large emerald cocktail ring.
Her husband did not attend the event.
Interestingly, Cate was also spotted without a ring last month, when she attended an event in New York at the Museum of Modern Art on February 6.
Cate made no attempt to hide her bare ring finger as she smiled for photos outside the exclusive event.
In October 2023, Cate was once again seen without her wedding ring while sitting front row at the Stella McCartney show during Paris Fashion Week.
Instead, the actress wore a set of elegant gold rings on her ring finger.
speaking to Women’s Day magazine, a source close to the couple said that Cate’s missing ring has raised alarm bells about the state of their marriage.
Her admission comes after she dismissed rumors about the state of her marriage when she stepped out with husband Andrew Upton in London on Thursday.
Rumors of marital problems arose when she was seen on several occasions without her wedding ring.
‘Seeing Cate without her ring has shocked her friends. For the first time they are wondering if things are not going so well,” says the source.
A question mark has been hanging over Cate and Andrew’s marriage for some time.
The pair have not been seen on a date since August, when they were photographed enjoying a sun-soaked holiday in Ibiza, the release being their first in seven months.
They also attracted attention last month after putting their sprawling mansion in Prahran, Melbourne, up for sale.
The three-bedroom family home, which the couple bought in 2006, sold for more than $3 million.
