Call Her Daddy host Alexandra Cooper has broken her silence about her controversial interview with Kamala Harris, admitting that “not everyone will be happy.”

Podcaster 30 sat down with the vice president for an episode released Sunday.

Some viewers criticized the interview for its “softball” questioning and lack of focus on two issues on which Harris is apparently weak: the war in Gaza and the federal government’s response to Hurricane Helene.

In a behind-the-scenes video shared on Instagram after the show aired, Cooper explained that she “couldn’t address all the policies” with Harris and decided to focus the interview almost entirely on women’s issues.

“I completely understand that everyone has different political opinions, but I feel really good that the whole episode is about women.”

“Come with me to interview the vice president of the United States,” Cooper began the clip. “It’s just another interview… it’s okay.”

“When I started Call Her Daddy, I didn’t really see it in the direction that I would sit down with the vice president,” he continued.

“But dream big, kids.”

The host walked viewers through her pre-interview routine, as she prepared for the “cozy” conversation in the rain while her team set up their Washington DC studio again.

After being shown around the room, Cooper said he was told his interview with Harris had to be delayed more than five hours as Harris had “national matters to attend to.”

He said he waited out the delay with an Arnold Palmer (a shot of iced tea and lemonade) while he “continued to prepare for the interview.”

Speaking from the airport after her interview, Cooper justified her approach by saying she felt “really good because the whole episode is about women.”

After getting the call to start the program, Cooper said she was “nervous and excited.”

“I know I’m going to do the best I can,” he said. “I know not everyone will be happy with what I say and do, but we will keep this Call Her Daddy.”

Cooper showed the moment he met Harris and shook her hand, before moving on to his post-interview thoughts while at Dulles Airport.

“I’ve never felt like an interview went by so quickly in my life,” he said.

Although some criticized the interview questions, Cooper admitted that he “couldn’t address all the policies” with the vice president, but justified his approach by saying he wanted to keep the focus on women.

“I did what I knew would apply to Dad’s gang,” he continued. “And I talked about women.”

“I completely understand that everyone has different political opinions, but I feel really good that the whole episode is about women.”

But while Cooper said he felt “really good” about the episode, some viewers disagreed, criticizing his “softball” questions and his decision to turn his popular podcast into a political one.

Cooper also faced backlash for admitting that he also invited Donald Trump for an interview and for his decision to wear a hoodie in the interview, something he routinely does on his show, but some felt he should have dressed up for the occasion.

After sharing the interview, one person commented on the video: “I’m so disappointed, this seems like propaganda and trying to make her look like ‘gen z’.”

‘One day you will remember this and regret it when we are in a war because of him. SMH, really smh. You just lost a lot of respect.

Others noted that it seemed in poor taste given the Biden-Harris administration’s response to the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene.

‘What a shame! “You sold your soul on this, while people needed help you had this lady on a podcast,” one fan wrote.

“I hope everyone stops following you and no one sees your trash again.”

However, some joined the online fray to support Cooper and the show, noting that Cooper has spoken out in favor of abortion rights, which a spokesperson for Harris confirmed was on the agenda.

‘Is it fascinating that people are surprised that a woman who has spoken out about abortion rights for years would interview a vice president running for president about abortion rights?! “It’s like being surprised that Charlotte Tilbury is doing someone’s makeup.”

“Imagine boycotting someone for having a presidential candidate on their show,” wrote another. ‘You should be proud of your girl. It is not necessary that one likes and agrees with all the guests.’

The vice president has been the subject of intense criticism for her lack of interviews during the election campaign.

In the interview, Harris avoided the show’s typically raunchy sexual content while speaking with Cooper, who allowed the vice president to repeat her typical talking points about abortion rights and student debt.

She said of her combined family with her husband Doug Emhoff and their two adult children: ‘This is not the 1950s anymore. We have family by blood and family by love.’

Harris also reacted to JD Vance’s comments about “childless cat ladies” running the country by saying, “I think it’s cruel.”

The interview is the latest in a series of appearances in less traditional media by the vice president as she prepares her candidacy for the White House.

Shortly before her interview with Call Her Daddy, the vice president also sat down with former basketball players Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes for a special episode of their ‘All the Smoke’ podcast in a wide-ranging interview that lasted approximately 45 minutes.

During the episode released Monday, the three discussed Harris’ loyalty to the Golden State Warriors, but also touched on a host of other topics, from politics to her family and racial identity.

It comes as Harris faces criticism for largely avoiding difficult interviews with journalists who would grill her on the issues, instead opting to appear on friendlier platforms as she works to reach voters across the country.
