A California property manager is under investigation after claiming he voted six times for Donald Trump using ballots mailed to his tenants who had previously moved out.
The voter took to Reddit this week as early voting began in California to respond to a r/WordAdvice thread, saying he received four ballots mailed to renters who hadn’t updated their voting address.
‘I voted for all four. NO to rent control. NO to school vouchers. and…Trump baby,” he wrote. “I follow the Chicago rule for voting: vote early, vote often.”
Local California news outlet KCRC reported that other Reddit users identified the person through his username ManCow2000 and forwarded his post to the FBI.
A California man is under investigation after claiming in a Reddit thread that he had voted for Donald Trump six times.
The property manager said he received four ballots mailed to tenants who had not updated their voting address and used them to vote for the former president.
In his Reddit post, the user said he voted a total of six times for Trump because he used the four fraudulent ballots and also voted on behalf of his wife.
His identity was traced to Redding, California, and his post was sent to Shasta County Recorder Tom Toller, who told him SF gate alerted the Prosecutor’s Office.
“A review of that social media post provided enough detail for my staff to take the claim seriously,” Toller told the outlet.
‘Voter fraud of this type, voting more than one ballot, is particularly insidious because it dilutes the vote of all other registered voters in our county who vote one ballot in accordance with the law.
“We refer this matter to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office for investigation of a possible criminal violation of section 18500 of the California Election Code.”
It comes as Donald Trump has once again raised the issue of voter fraud affecting the election, just days before polls close in the presidential race.
Shasta County District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett (pictured) said her office has launched an investigation into the allegations.
Shasta County District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett told KCRC that her office has launched an investigation into the allegations.
“In every election, my office receives allegations of voter fraud from the Registrar of Voters,” the district attorney said in a statement.
‘We analyze each of them, which often results in educating those participating in the electoral process about the resources available to ensure compliance with the law.
‘We also, in appropriate cases, file criminal charges for violation of the election code. The registrar of voters has forwarded the allegations against (the Reddit user) to my office.’
The owner said Friday that he had been fired from his job over the post, but insisted he “did not engage in any illegal activity” and made up the online claim.
He said her posts were hyperbole and “blown out of proportion” and “very false.”
Toller said if it turns out to be true that the man voted fraudulently, he would have committed a federal crime.
“If the investigation demonstrates that voter fraud occurred, a further referral will be made to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as voting more than once is also a violation of 42 USC 1973i(3),” Toller said.
“The latter is punishable by up to five years in federal prison, underscoring how serious the allegation of voter fraud is.”
