Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett did not practice Thursday because of a foot injury and was added to the team’s injury report.

However, Garrett is expected to play in the Browns’ Week 2 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain DealerThat also goes for fellow defensive end Za’Darius Smith, who did not participate in Thursday’s practice due to a back injury. Both players are experiencing pain, but their injuries are not considered serious.

Garrett, 28, had a sack in Week 1’s 33-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, forcing a fumble by Dak Prescott that Dallas recovered. On the day, Garrett had two tackles, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit.

The eight-year veteran was named AP 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year last season after recording 14 sacks, 42 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 30 quarterback hits in 16 games. He also earned first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. The Browns had the second-best defense in the NFL last season with 3,149 yards allowed.

For his career, Garrett has averaged 11.2 sacks per season. He was Cleveland’s first overall pick in 2017 (No. 1 overall) out of Texas A&M. He has missed one game in each of the past two seasons.
