Brittany Cartwright hopes she and Jax Taylor can have a “healthy” co-parenting relationship as they go through their divorce.
The 35-year-old Vanderpump Rules alum said PEOPLE Thursday that Jax, 44, is a “great dad” and that his three-year-old son, Cruz, is his priority.
But she admitted tensions are still high between her and her ex, who she split from in February, and that it will “take some time” for them to get to a “healthy” place.
“He’s a great dad. Great dad, terrible husband. I’m never going to separate him from Cruz,” Brittany began.
“We will always put Cruz first and work toward a healthy co-parenting relationship.”

Despite any drama between them, Brittany said she can always trust her ex.
“It’s going to take some time. Still, things are very tense between us, but in general I know that if I need something, if Cruz needs something, I can call him and he’ll be there to help us,” she explained.
Hours before Brittany’s comments were published, DailyMail.com obtained photos of Jax removing his belongings from their $2 million marital home in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
After five years of marriage and a six-month separation, Brittany officially filed for divorce from her The Valley co-star on August 27.
Citing “irreconcilable differences,” Brittany requested primary legal and physical custody of their infant son Cruz and that Jax be granted visitation rights with the child.
Jax later admitted that he doesn’t blame Brittany for seeking a divorce.
On the When Reality Hits podcast, he said: “Unfortunately, she’s had enough. And I don’t blame her at all. I mean, I can’t believe she’s been with me for this long. That we’ve stayed, to be honest.”
Despite this, Jax was shocked when Brittany decided to leave him.
The reality star said: “When she decided to leave, I was in shock. I shouldn’t have been in shock, but I was.”
Jax admitted that he’s been through a “very, very difficult” time since his split from Brittany.
She added: “Anyone who has been through a divorce will understand how difficult this is.”
Sources previously told TMZ that Taylor was served her divorce papers on camera.
She called Jax a “great father” but a “terrible husband.”

The source told the outlet that the former couple was filming for The Valley, but “did not” film anything together on Tuesday.
According to the publication, “a third party brought the documents” to Taylor.
According to sources familiar with her relationship with Cartwright, she “took the initiative and decided it was time to file the lawsuit” after determining that he had “done too many things for a reconciliation to happen.”
Taylor is said to be “upset by all the praise Brittany is receiving for deciding to apply,” as he allegedly thinks she “has her own dark side.”
Fans have been warned that The Valley season 2 will be “very heavy.”
The divorce comes several months after Brittany underwent a secret cosmetic procedure.
The Bravo’s The Valley star exclusively told DailyMail.com that she had a two-hour AirSculpt session (which removes fat and tightens skin) in May so she could feel good about her body over the summer.
The work was done three months before she filed for divorce from Taylor.
And the reality TV sensation is “delighted” with the move which has boosted her confidence after a very difficult year.
“I feel great these days after having AirSculpt,” she told DailyMail.com as she could be seen showing off her svelte figure in new images.

“Yeah, you could say I wanted a revenge body. I wanted to look good after everything I’ve been through this year. I want to look my best. I wanted to get my glow back.”
Being newly single is a big change for her.
“I’m working on myself because I need to heal. To be honest, I thought I’d be with Jax forever, so this is very new to me. It’s taking me a while to heal and move on,” she told DailyMail.com.
