Large parts of Australia’s east coast are set to be inundated in the coming days as one of its capitals prepares for its biggest event of the year.
Three separate weather systems are expected to collide in Queensland, bringing several days of heavy rain and possible storms over the weekend and next week.
Parts of the Sunshine State are expected to receive rainfall totals of between 30mm and 40mm.
Rain is also likely to affect parts of northern New South Wales.
Elsewhere in the country, many Australians can expect predominantly fine, sunny weather through Wednesday, with the heat increasing first in Western Australia and then spreading to South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.
Warmer temperatures will be driven by a band of high pressure stretching across the south.
A cold front that affected the southwest of the country earlier this week is expected to continue moving eastward.
That system was expected to reach Victoria and Tasmania on Thursday night, bringing some rain.
Thousands of festival-goers and visitors to Queensland’s beloved EKKA festival in Brisbane over the weekend and early next week are being urged to bring their umbrellas and wellies.
Eastern parts of Queensland, from central Queensland to the southeast, could expect heavy rainfall early next week, with some parts of the state receiving rainfall totals of between 30mm and 40mm.
Thousands of festival-goers heading to Brisbane’s beloved EKKA festival in the coming days should bring their umbrellas and wellies.
“Queensland is a place where we get a lot of rain,” said Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Angus Hines.
‘It’s not a loud rain nor too alarming.
“But it’s sure to rain a lot.”
Onshore easterly flow will develop across the city on Friday and then an “upper-level weather feature” early next week, bringing dark clouds and rain.
“I think you have to plan ahead, definitely,” he said.
‘Please note that there will be rain on the way.’
EKKA, or The Royal Queensland Show, kicks off this Saturday and continues until next Sunday, August 18.
Everything seems to indicate that rain will extend to the show next Monday and Tuesday.
The show takes place at the Brisbane Showgrounds in the city centre.
It features a mix of agricultural display with thrill rides, bumper cars, show bags, performances and food.
