Oscar De La Hoya has found himself embroiled in a social media controversy after a video posted of him and his partner was removed following a series of complaints.
De La Hoya, who is the promoter of American fighter Ryan Garcia, took to Instagram to share a video of himself dancing with partner Holly Sonders in what Spanish outlet Marca has described as “a sexual boogie”.
Sonders is filmed in his underwear, while De La Hoya is wearing nothing but a leopard-print thong as the two dance together to Sak Noel’s Spanish-language song Loca People.
Unsurprisingly, the video quickly went viral, but as a result it caught the attention of those who were apparently not all that impressed with the clip.
One account reposted the clip before it was deleted by Instagram, writing: ‘It looks disgusting and Oscar is having a midlife crisis.

Former boxer De La Hoya has been with golf announcer Holly Sonders for the past three years.
“This is not going to work, the Internet will destroy them.”
De La Hoya was unimpressed by Instagram’s action, insisting that his ‘enemies’ were responsible for reporting the video.
“I just got banned. My last post was really funny and the haters reported me for it. They don’t like to see me happy,” she said on social media.
Sonders added: “We both posted a funny video an hour ago,” Sonders, 37, wrote in a post on her Instagram story. “It got removed from our accounts due to some lames reporting it.”
‘Oscar has received 6,000 comments in 30 minutes. I guess some people really dislike seeing us having fun. The good news is that we’ll be back tomorrow with more comments.’
Sonders appeared to take aim at Instagram after the clip was removed, with a post reading: ‘IG removes all my content that isn’t covered from head to toe… so here you go. I’ll play within their guidelines for a day.
“And if you’re the type who enjoys it, rest assured that we’ll be back with more thong videos this week because we’re staying in Mexico. ALWAYS HAVE FUN, FRIENDS.”
He then followed up with another video, captioned: ‘Thanks for tuning in LIVE! And for making our goofball go incredibly viral as one of the most viewed of 2024! Send me more ideas for our next video… Oscar already has some ideas.’
In the video Sonders asks for the ‘craziest videos you have’, before De La Hoya interrupts him to show off his toned physique, before his partner thanks his fans for their ‘support’.
De La Hoya has been in a relationship with golf announcer Sonders, 37, since 2021.
The boxing great’s wardrobe choices had already caught the media’s attention when De La Hoya was photographed wearing fishnet tights, women’s underwear and a wig in 2007.
However, he has since claimed that he was allegedly set up by two unnamed women, adding that he was drugged.
“I was high,” said De La Hoya, who by his own admission had struggled with cocaine and alcohol. “I didn’t even know it.”
“I was hanging out with bad people, this and that,” she continued on the Club Shay Shay podcast. “Two women came into my room with a suitcase. That’s all I remember. And after that, I woke up the next day…”
“There was women’s clothing in the case, drugs, this and that,” he said, implying that the women knew exactly what they were doing. “They set me up, but it’s okay, it happened. So what?”
Although De La Hoya initially attempted to deny that it was him in the photo, the former Olympic gold medalist has since admitted that the photos were authentic.
“I say it openly,” he said. “I don’t give a shit.”
De La Hoya has spoken candidly on several occasions about his relationship with drugs and alcohol, telling First on Fox Business about his “disconnection” with his mother.
Photos of De La Hoya surfaced in 2007, but he initially denied their legitimacy.

“I got into a mess with alcohol and drugs and I lost myself. And the fact that I had such a disconnected relationship with my mother was so big that she never told me that she loved me. I was always going to these clubs and flirting with women,” the boxer explained.
“And it wasn’t necessarily because you wanted to be with them,” De La Hoya added, “you just wanted to talk and have a voice, ears to listen to you. And I remember crying and telling everything to this stranger that I didn’t even know.”
