President Joe Biden took off the gloves Wednesday by saying former President Donald Trump deserved to be punched and have bleach injected into his hair, while waging his own battle with the teleprompter.
Biden addressed the North American Construction Unions Conference in Washington, D.C., immediately after earning the union’s endorsement in the 2024 presidential race.
He joked with the crowd about what he could accomplish if he was given “four more years,” though he read aloud the teleprompter prompt to “pause,” creating an awkward moment of silence before the audience chanted “four more years.” .
Biden told union workers that Trump “belittles us.”
“Think about the kids you grew up with who you’d like to corral and just take a hard left turn,” Biden said. ‘I’m not suggesting we hit the president. But we all knew guys like that when we were little.

NABTU members hold signs in support of President Joe Biden after the union offered its endorsement to the Democratic president on Wednesday.
He took another verbal swipe at Trump by mentioning the former president’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
‘By the way, remember when he was trying to deal with COVID and he said to just inject some bleach into your veins?’ Biden asked: “She got lost, everything went to her hair.”
That joke excited the audience.
“I shouldn’t have said that,” Biden said.
“You are a bad influence on me,” the president added, laughing.
NABTU’s endorsement of Biden was primarily due to him signing the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which spurred construction projects across the country.
Before Biden’s appearance, the union played a nearly five-minute video in which NABTU President Sean McGarvey laid out the case against Trump to union members.
Biden said Wednesday that Trump “belittles us.” “He thinks about the kids you grew up with who you’d like to corral and just give them a hard left turn,” Biden said. ‘I’m not suggesting we hit the president. But we all knew guys like that growing up.
In the video, McGarvey talked about how he has known Trump since the 1980s.
‘The only difference between the Donald Trump of the 80s and the Donald Trump of today is that he feels totally free to let his dark side out. And the dark side of him is very, very dark and very, very dangerous for this country,” McGarvey said.
McGarvey talked about how Trump, as president, promised to help NABTU workers fix their pensions.
Trump, however, did not comply.
McGarvey also criticized Trump for never delivering on an infrastructure package.
“Donald Trump is incapable of running anything, much less the most powerful country in the history of the world and God help us if he comes close to that White House in the future,” the union boss said.
After the event ended, the Trump campaign almost immediately highlighted Biden’s teleprompted hiccup.
‘Joe Biden, cognitively disabled, reading from teleprompter: “Four more years? Pause?”‘ the Trump campaign’s press release said, sharing the short video clip.
The Biden campaign later issued a statement regarding the campaign events Trump held on Wednesday, as every Wednesday there is a break in the Stormy Daniels hush money trial.
“He didn’t have any,” said Biden spokesman James Singer.
Trump has complained about the unfairness of his court appearances that keep him away from the election campaign.
