New Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany was asked which players he sees winning the Ballon d’Or in the coming years and one of his answers will be a surprise to many.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Kompany has left Burnley to become Bayern’s new manager, with the 38-year-old agreeing a contract until 2027 to replace Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena.

Prior to this, the former defender gave an interview to ESPN in which he was asked which players he can see winning football’s biggest individual award in the future.

‘Can’t I say Mbappé?’ she asked quickly in response. ‘Because you know they’re going to win it for a long time.

“It will be him and Haaland for at least the next 15 years.”

Looking beyond those two, Kompany mentioned Barcelona star Gavi before opting for a more off-pitch selection.

That name was Juran Duranville, an 18-year-old striker who has played just three times for Borussia Dortmund since joining the club in January 2023.

The Belgian is shaping up for great things and has represented his country in all the youth categories.

“Vincent Kompany is the new coach of FC Bayern and signs an agreement until 2027,” reads a Wednesday post on Bayern’s X account.

The German giants had endured frustration in their attempt to find a replacement for Tuchel after it was announced in February that he would be leaving this summer.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of FC Bayern,” said Kompany.

“It is a great honor to be able to work at this club: FC Bayern is an institution in international football.

Kompany also surprised fans by suggesting that Julien Duranville will be in the running in the future.

“As a coach, you have to defend who you are as a character: I love having the ball, being creative, but we also have to be aggressive and brave on the field.

‘Now I’m looking forward to starting with the basics: working with the players, building a team. Once the foundation is right, success will come.’
