The Baltimore Orioles officially clinched their postseason berth after beating the New York Yankees 5-3, and the celebrations began immediately.
Baltimore popped champagne corks in the visitors’ locker room at Yankee Stadium to celebrate a successful regular season.
Well, almost everyone was popping champagne corks, because Jackson Holliday, 20, is still just under the legal drinking age.
So when he arrived at the locker room, he was greeted with bottles of non-alcoholic champagne marked ‘Baby Bird Bath Water’ with a sign that read ‘Baby’s First Clinch-mas 2024’.
The Orioles rookie has had a tumultuous season for Baltimore, but is expected to make a big impact down the stretch.
Baltimore Orioles rookie Jackson Holliday, 20, enjoyed a non-alcoholic beverage to celebrate his postseason berth while the rest of his teammates popped champagne.
Holliday saw a sign that said ‘Baby’s First Birthday Party’ with bottles of sparkling water.
Holliday, the son of seven-time All-Star and 2011 World Series winner Matt Holliday, failed to make Baltimore’s Opening Day roster this season.
However, he made his major league debut in early April.
Unfortunately for him, he struggled in his first ten games, going 2-for-34 before being sent back to the minors.
But by July, he was back in Baltimore and hit his first MLB home run in his first game back with the O’s. Overall, he’s batting .169/.227/.290 with five homers and 23 RBIs in just 56 major league games this season.
Baltimore is still technically within striking distance of the Yankees for the American League East title.
However, considering they are five games back with five games remaining in the season, they are more likely to enter the playoffs as the top wild card in the American League.
