Ashanti spoke out on Wednesday about the meaning behind the name of her and husband Nelly’s newborn baby, Kareem Kenkaide ‘KK’ Haynes.
The 43-year-old singer confirmed Wednesday that she welcomed her son with rapper Hot In Herre, 49, on July 18.

“Kenkaide is my dad’s name, and obviously my dad only has girls,” Ashanti said. He told the media.
The baby’s middle name, Kareem, has Arabic origins and translates to “generous, kind and dignified,” she told the outlet.

The couple was photographed hugging in Fairburn, Georgia, on Halloween last year.
Ashanti said Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., was the person who named her son.
“His dad named him with a lot of pride” and thought the name was “really, really cool,” Ashanti told the outlet.
Ashanti told the outlet that she and her husband welcomed their son ahead of schedule and that Nelly flew in at the last minute to be there for the birth.
“Having everyone in the delivery room and seeing his face for the first time, I cried. It was very emotional and spiritual at the same time,” Ashanti told the outlet.
The singer of hits including Foolish and Rock wit U (Awww Baby) said it was “an electrifying feeling” to become a mother for the first time, as she had “a vision of this moment for a long time”.
Ashanti said she was fully committed to motherhood, saying: ‘My son definitely dictates everything now, he is the overall priority and I don’t care what it takes or what I have to do, I’m just going to give my all and my best to my son.
She added: “This little guy has my entire soul wrapped around his finger.”
The singer advised other new mothers to follow their instincts and stay strong “no matter what obstacles come their way.”

“You don’t want to get too lost in the baby’s world. I think it’s very important to create a balance.”
Ashanti, whose child with Nelly is her first child, added: “I’m completely new so I’m not trying to give good advice.”
The couple has been married since late last year.
