An Ohio mother who left her three-year-old daughter to starve in a house of horrors filled with feces and insects before the 16-pound girl was rescued is jailed

A mother who nearly starved her three-year-old daughter to death in a filthy, cockroach-infested apartment has been jailed.

Rabyah Nadhirah Muballigh, 26, pleaded guilty to felonious assault and child endangerment in the worst case prosecutors have ever seen.

She was sentenced Thursday to between seven and 10 1/2 years in prison, and the girl’s father, Corey Michael Moody, 29, is due to stand trial on October 7.

The girl weighed just 16 pounds when she was rescued from the house of horrors in Fairborn, Ohio, on January 8 when her mother made a false 911 call.

As officers entered the building, one could be heard in shocking body camera footage gasping “Oh my God” as they walked through the trash-infested home.

When they entered the girl’s bedroom, they found her unconscious, curled up in a corner of the room, next to a dirty mattress covered in insect bites.

Moody, who also lived in Fairborn, was also arrested and charged with child endangerment, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence. He is in jail after failing to post $100,000 bail.

Muballigh made the anonymous call to 911, posing as a concerned bystander and not the girl’s mother.

“There is a child at 308 Wallace who is currently having trouble breathing and needs to get to a hospital as soon as possible,” he said.

At first the police thought the girl was dead, but then she was heard saying: “Oh, she’s still breathing, she’s still breathing, let’s go, let’s go.”

Garbage is seen lying on the floor in the room where the girl was found.

Officers pulled back blankets they were using as curtains to let more light into the room as they searched the girl.

“Inside they located a small child who was conscious but not alert and was immediately picked up by Fairborn medics and transported to a local hospital,” police said.

The girl’s bedroom was littered with bottles, sticky fly traps and the mattress was covered in urine and feces. At one point, a cockroach was running along the wall.

There were mountains of trash strewn throughout the apartment, and court documents described it as “messy and dirty.”

“Various insects were observed crawling on the walls, floors and beds. A clear infestation of cockroaches was observed in each of the two bedrooms as well as other areas of the apartment,” the affidavit reads.

‘Dead bugs and moldy food were visible inside the refrigerator and freezer.’

The girl's father, Corey Michael Moody, 29, is scheduled to stand trial Oct. 7 on charges of child endangerment, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.

Police said several insects were observed crawling on the walls, floors and beds and moldy food was found inside the refrigerator.

The apartment was later determined to be unfit for human occupancy and was condemned under the Fairborn Enforcement Code.

“She has a long road to recovery, but she is still gaining weight. But again, she is likely to be hospitalized for quite some time,” Sgt. Nathan Penrod said at the time.

Muballigh left after making the 911 call, but police said they were able to convince her to return and later arrested her.

The 25-year-old told police she ran away because she was scared and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Greene County Prosecutor David Hayes said it was the worst case of child abuse he had seen in his 20-year career.

“Muballigh will go to prison for several years, as he should. His primary responsibility was to look after that child and he failed to do so and caused serious physical harm to the child,” he said.

Muballigh only took her daughter to the doctor once in her life and instead prayed for her little girl every night for six months.

“I should have sought help sooner so that she would not have been injured in the way she was,” he told the court. WHIO reported.

‘I gave up. I stopped getting out of bed, showering, eating. The only time I got up was to feed him, but it wasn’t enough. I should have done more.’

Muballigh’s lawyer, Lucas Wilder, said she had “extreme mental health issues” after a difficult childhood, giving up another child for adoption and having a third child die.

The girl was sent to live with her sister’s adoptive family.
