After a 19-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident, police were forced to get creative in their pursuit of the driver who nearly took the young woman’s life.

Sarahy Rodriguez was driving home in Beaverton, Oregon, when she was hit by a car believed to belong to Julian Borjas-Diaz, 27.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they responded to the crash at 7:35 p.m. and found the car involved had fled the scene without exchanging any information and leaving Rodriguez with serious injuries.

Investigators believe the phone was thrown into the driver’s car during the crash and discovered that Borjas-Diaz was driving the Scion at the time of the crash, according to Koin 6 News.

Her mother, Trini Miranda, said that when she saw her daughter, “she started screaming and crying. I couldn’t believe it was my daughter I was seeing.”
