Better Homes and Gardens heartthrob Adam Dovile on Friday revealed the grueling workout regimen he put himself through ahead of his appearance on Dancing With The Stars.

The 40-year-old celebrity social worker told Daily Mail Australia that a combination of a healthy diet, low alcohol consumption and rigorous physical training helped him get into shape.

“I’m not going to lie, it was really tough, I was definitely out of my comfort zone. I was taking two cold showers a day for the entire eight weeks of training,” he began.

He added that his career as a builder helped him prepare for the challenging physical demands of the show, as he was used to being on his feet throughout the workday.

“I’m a pretty active guy with all my building, so when I embarked on it I didn’t want to change my outside life too much. So I just kind of did what I usually do.”

“I made sure to walk an average of 20,000 steps a day. I don’t eat junk food and I only drink water, plus some straws at the end of the day.”

Adam added that he was particularly impressed by AFL legend Ben Cousins’ performance on the show, and how the reformed bad boy had managed to turn his life around.

“He’s a champion guy. He tried his hardest and was the only one of us who kept dancing after he finished,” Adam said.

“What people need to understand is that we are all human beings. We never want anyone to fall into bad habits, but the best thing is that people can be rehabilitated.

“I think we should celebrate the fact that the guy has rehabilitated himself and look at him, he’s fit and healthy! We can’t focus on his past. We have to celebrate his success in coming out of this situation fit and healthy.”

Adam added that he would be attending this year’s Logies ceremony in Sydney in August and named his pick to take home the Gold Logie.

“I love working alongside (DWTS co-host) Sonia Kruger, so I’m going to give her my compliments. She’s a beautiful woman, I support her.

‘Better Homes is also nominated for Most Popular Lifestyle Show and has never won since I’ve been there, so I hope we can change that.’

Adam appears alongside a host of A-list celebrities in the latest series of DWTS, including Ben Cousins, MasterChef star Julie Goodwin, Home and Away star James Stewart and Lisa McCune.

Dancing With The Stars continues on Sunday at 7pm on Channel Seven and 7Plus.
