A huge colony of decades-old bees has been discovered inside the walls of a Maine farm.
The hive with more than 40,000 bees lived inside the Smiling Hill Farm building in Westbrook, reported WMTW.
The photographs show the swarm and an immense quantity of honeycombs embedded in the structure.
“There have been bees in this house for over 60 years, and it could be longer. It could be 70 or 80,” Michael Knight, whose family owns the house, told local media.
The family enlisted the help of local agricultural service Bee Huggah to help safely remove the insects.

“I think these bees are worth saving for a number of reasons,” said beekeeper Andrew MacDonald. “They have medicinal value and they pollinate our crops.”
MacDonald transported the bees to a hive box outside the house, where they will live until they can be relocated elsewhere on the farm.
A similar situation occurred earlier this year when a beekeeper found tens of thousands of bees in his son’s bedroom.
The North Carolina beekeeper found about 60,000 bees after three-year-old Saylor Class insisted there were “monsters in the wall” of his Charlotte home.
According to the BBC, her mother, Ashley Massis Class, thought nothing of what her daughter said and even gave her a bottle of water so she could “scare away the monsters at night.”

The family has since gone viral on TikTok after Ashley posted a video of the discovery and clips of what happened.
“They came out in droves like in a horror movie,” Class told the BBC.
The class claimed the bees damaged the home’s electrical wiring and the cost will be more than $20,000 in damages.
Ashley and her husband began to realize that these monsters might be bees after she discovered clusters of them in their chimney and attic.
Saylor’s parents began to believe that the three-year-old heard bees buzzing near the ceiling of her bedroom. They called a pest control company, which confirmed the existence of the “monsters.”
