A pub diner’s expensive lunch bill has sent the internet into meltdown after he shared a snap of his bank receipt for two sandwiches and two fizzy drinks.

Leigh Keystone from Wales took the lead X to share his frustration at the cost of eating out in a “standard pub”, whose name he preferred not to reveal, in the UK.

Despite ordering only four items from the menu and no alcoholic drinks, her bill came to £32.50.

Leigh was furious that he and his wife didn’t eat out much in pubs, but he was shocked by the price of two cheese sandwiches, two portions of chips and two Pepsis.

People shared customer frustration, saying the price of eating out has “skyrocketed,” so many have resorted to eating at home before going out.

Sharing her receipt online, Leigh wrote: “Don’t eat out in pubs much – pint of coke £4, half coke £3.60, two cheese sandwiches £19.90 – is this normal in a standard pub? Wife has told me if I mention half a coke was £3.60 again she’ll leave me!!’

The cheese sandwiches cost a staggering £9.95 each, with two sides of chips adding another £5.

Meanwhile, you might assume that a full-size Pepsi Max would cost twice the price of a half-glass, however there was only 40p difference between them, with a typical Pepsi Max costing £4.00.

The post racked up more than 230,000 views and garnered 700 comments, with one person saying: ‘The cost of eating out has skyrocketed.’

‘My wife and I shared a bacon sandwich at a tea stall, she had a tea and I had a coffee and it cost us just under a tenner! We don’t eat out very often any more (we’re retired).’

Another said: “Unfortunately the cost of eating out has skyrocketed, it’s going to become a self-defeating cycle where we don’t bother anymore, we’d rather invite friends over, spend £30 on snacks or make food than pay more than the bill. Prices have gone up, portions have gone down, it’s not sustainable.”

Someone else agreed and said, ‘That’s outrageous.’ My partner and I had a delicious three-course meal with a small beer and a bottle of wine last night at a seafront restaurant in Spain for €70.

“From now on, I’ll avoid this place like the plague.” Leigh fumed. Before adding, “It was a weird day.” But never again. LOL.

“At the time we commented that at home we couldn’t even come close to that. This proves it perfectly.”

“From now on, I will avoid this place like the plague,” Leigh said furiously. Before adding: “It was a weird day, but never again. Haha.”

He then added: “We spent the day out, but next time we will bring our own cheese sandwiches. LOL.”

However, some people sympathized with local pubs and restaurants and said their bills are also rising.

One person said: “Yeah, that sounds pretty good. But before you blame the owners, look at what the breweries charge them and the energy costs. It’s ridiculous, but that’s the way the industry is now.”

Another said: “Sounds pretty good. A pub is an expensive business and food is the only sector where you can make money with the price of alcohol going through the roof. Food is expensive, utilities expensive, service costs high personnel costs and there are many other costs to take into account.

Meanwhile, someone else wrote: ‘Don’t forget that you are paying for the service, the glass, the food, the rent, the electricity, the staff who serve you, the cleaning, the heating, etc., etc., etc.’ Running a pub is expensive these days. Most barely break even.’
