People on the web have gotten into a heated discussion about whether or not adults should be able to order items from the kids’ menu while dining at restaurants.
It all started after social media sensation Jake Shane (who rose to the comedy throne on TikTok after interviewing a slew of celebrities, including actor Glen Powell) shared his light-hearted conversation with popular sushi chain Sugarfish on the topic.
Jake begged the upmarket restaurant, which has branches in Los Angeles and New York, to allow him to order a side of rice, but the 24-year-old refused and was told the dish was only for children.
He posted a screenshot of the exchange on Instagram and sparked a massive debate.

The fierce row began when Jake, who is close friends with online sensation Alix Earle, took to his Instagram Story to reveal he had heard the restaurant had been serving rice only to “select customers.”
An employee on the restaurant’s social media then responded: “Hi Jake, we are allowing kids to eat extra food (in-restaurant only) because some kids aren’t eating sushi yet and we believe feeding hungry kids is a good thing for everyone’s dining experience. We hope to see you soon.”
Jake immediately got into a debate with the sushi restaurant and said, “Holy crap, are we fighting?”
The network attempted to regain Jake’s good graces by responding “never” along with blue and white hearts.
However, Jake’s pleas for rice didn’t end there.
The 24-year-old social media star said he “felt really uncomfortable” and asked if a poem could influence his mind.
He then reiterated his request, stressing that it was extremely “important” for him to get the rice.
So the sushi empire pulled a book out of its page and responded with a poem: ‘Roses are red, violets are blue, rice with sugar is only for children, not for you.’

When Sugarfish ignored her messages, she added: “Are you leaving me on read? Is that what you do? Is that what I said? It’s too bad to be true.”
Sugarfish sent one last message and said, “Don’t think. Just eat. Trust me.”
Jake ended the conversation by adding, ‘Are you just pointing out menu items now?’
She shared screenshots of the conversation on her account, which she captioned: “It’s a side of rice.”

Sugarfish, which is based on Chef Nozawa’s sushi style, has already addressed this issue in its website.
The website states: ‘Our rice is a very important component of the Sugarfish experience. We make our rice in very small batches and so we can offer Nozawa’s signature warm rice.
‘We prepare a new batch at least every 30 minutes, discarding any unused rice from the previous batch.
‘If we allow all guests to order extra rice, our kitchen will run slower and other guests will have to wait for their food.
‘We allow children to eat rice as a side dish (in the restaurant only) because some do not eat sushi yet and we believe that feeding hungry children is a good thing for everyone’s dining experience.’
