A Manchester pub owner has responded to a grumpy customer after he called the bar “woke” in a one-star review.

Port Street Beer House, based in the city’s trendy Northern Quarter, shared a screenshot of this week’s review on social media, along with its return.

The poor review, posted on Google, offered no further explanation beyond calling the pub “awake” and downgrading both the service and atmosphere to one star.

Taking their Facebook Port Street Beer House, known for its wide selection of craft and draft beers, posted the screenshot alongside Gloria Gaynor’s hit “I Will Survive.”

In the post, the pub joked: ‘I’m so proud to have received this review from who I can only hope is a lovely, well-rounded person.

‘Name changed just for humor. Does anyone know where we should tell them to go next time they come?’

The owner also uploaded a photo of a fiction book to accompany the review, captioned: “All I don’t like is AWAKE. A book for basic nonsense.”

The post quickly gained support among loyal customers who defended the pub, while further mocking the disgruntled customer’s review.

One person suggested: ‘You should make this into a beer coaster.’

Another wrote: “It’s clearly a progressive pub. Or how do you explain the Guardian recommending it twelve years ago?”

A third fumed: “A progressive pub? Whoever comes up with a description like that is a first class moron. A complete moron. I’ve been drinking at Port Street Beer House since it opened and there’s nothing progressive about it.”

“They’re just bearded guys in a hip pub serving real, craft beers. Wake up, my arse. Pathetic.”

Despite the few negative reviews, the vast majority of customers praise Port Street Beer House for its excellent selection of drinks and welcoming atmosphere. A recent Google review reads: “Great beers at very reasonable prices for the area.”

‘The bar snacks are also top notch. Wide range of beers, lagers and ales. There is plenty of seating both inside and out. The decor is simple but adds to the atmosphere.’

This comes after a pub owner was branded an “angry little man” by a customer who left a scathing review because he had to pay for his drink.

Heath Ball, owner of the Red Lion & Sun pub in Highgate, was left “bewildered” after a customer helped himself to the pub’s frozen cocktail machine as if it were free.
