Police are investigating the rape of a British tourist on a beach in Magaluf.
The suspect is an African street vendor who is said to have taken advantage of his victim’s drunken state when he found her lying alone on the street in the resort’s bustling Punta Ballena party area after she became separated from her friends.
He is said to have picked her up and taken her to the beach where he allegedly raped her before stealing her mobile phone, respected island newspaper Ultima Hora reported today.
The tourist, whose age is unknown and who apparently remembered little of what happened, alerted the police hours later.

The ongoing investigation is being carried out by the Civil Guard, which has been analysing video surveillance cameras in an attempt to identify the suspect.
The sexual assault occurred around 4 a.m. on July 24, but only recently became public knowledge.
On Sunday it emerged that a British tourist had been assisted by police after reporting she had been raped and robbed on a beach in Mallorca.
The 30-year-old woman told detectives she arranged to go to the beach near the island’s capital Palma with a man she met and ended up agreeing to have sex with him before a second man appeared on the scene and forced himself on her in the early hours of last Thursday morning.
Then, according to the tourist, they fled with their belongings.
Local reports said she had accepted an offer of “free drugs” from the man she met while strolling in Palma before heading to the beach with him.
She was taken to hospital for a routine medical scan and was said to be “visibly shaken” and in “a state of shock” before being flown back to London.

In April last year, an Italian man was arrested on suspicion of raping a 38-year-old British woman on a beach near Magaluf, after luring her from a nearby bar.
The 20-year-old was arrested after the victim complained he had forced her to have sex after a night out in Palmanova, which borders the famous party resort.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Mallorca then reported: ‘The Civil Guard in Calvià has arrested a 20-year-old Italian man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of sexual assault against a 38-year-old woman.
‘Last week, the alleged victim and the suspect met at a nightclub in Palmanova.
‘When the bar closed, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the woman’s disorientation due to the amount of alcohol she had consumed, to take her to the beach and rape her.
‘The officers began an investigation and managed to identify and locate the alleged offender.’
Court officials could not be reached for comment this morning on the investigation that a judge launched at the time.
