A protest at Emory University descended into chaos when Georgia police officers detained several people Thursday.

The video captured several students being approached by officers while they were “sprayed with tear gas” and shot with rubber bullets.

Other clips showed police pinning protesters to the ground while pinning their hands behind their backs.

Several officers took away a protester while she screamed and sang.

The students occupied the grass of the school yard and set up a solidarity camp with Gaza.

Protesters said they were “demanding complete institutional divestment from Israeli apartheid and Cop City at all Atlanta colleges and universities,” according to Fox 5.

“This was a non-violent movement, you interrupted us,” one protester told police.

In a statement, Gregory L. Fenves, president of the university, said: Early this morning, several dozen protesters entered our Atlanta campus and camped out on the Quad.

‘These people are largely unaffiliated with Emory and were disrupting the university while our students finish their classes and prepare for final exams. This is completely unacceptable.”

ATL News First reporter Patrick Quinn said he counted “at least 15 people arrested,” including students, Emory University faculty and non-students.

An Emory doctoral student who witnessed the escalation of the protest told Quinn, “It makes me feel sad, but not just for Emory University, but for the state of America.”

‘What the hell is this? “It is freedom of expression,” added the student.
