A man who died after falling into a popular waterfall has been identified as a marine biologist and volunteer teacher from Israel.
Yaar Stav, 26, fell off rocks at Isabella Falls near Edmonton, southwest of Cairns, on Sunday around 4 p.m.
Paramedics performed CPR, but unfortunately Mr Stav could not be saved.
Stav moved to Cairns two years ago and found work as an aquaculture technician researching fish and other sea creatures.
He also took on the role of volunteer maths teacher for at-risk youth and made many friends in his new home in North Queensland.
Yaar Stav, 26, fell from the rocks at Isabella Falls, near Edmonton, southwest of Cairns.
It is believed Mr Stav was climbing the rocks before falling into the water.
Friends and loved ones who are shocked by Stav’s death said he had made plans to live in Australia permanently.
‘He was working through his skills visa. He wanted to buy a boat and property here in Cairns. Living as an Australian citizen,” her friend Neta Rosenkrontz told the Cairns Mail.
“Everyone loved him.”
It is believed Mr Stav was climbing the rocks before falling into the water.
Ms. Rosenkrontz said Mr. Stav was a kind and caring person who loved to have a good time.
‘He brought a lot of light to every room he entered. She loved to dance. “She always went to festivals and danced with his friends,” she said.
Mr Stav (pictured) moved to Cairns from Israel two years ago and found a job as an aquaculture technician and took up a position as a volunteer maths teacher.
Friends said Stav (pictured) had plans to settle in Australia and loved to go fishing and surfing in his spare time.
Mr. Stav also loved being on the water and spent his free time fishing or surfing.
His death is the third death in Isbaella Falls in the last two years.
A 17-year-old teenager, Christian Laska, died in the same place just four months ago and a 19-year-old woman also died in the water in 2022.
Cairns Regional Council councilor Brett Moller said on Tuesday access to the waterfall should be limited, but said the tourist site should not be closed.
