Burnley manager Vincent Kompany could not contain his frustration after a key refereeing decision went against his team in their 1-1 draw against Wolves on Tuesday night.

Kompany rated the standard of refereeing in the Premier League this season as “not good enough” after being sent off during Saturday’s draw against Chelsea for protesting against Lorenz Assignon’s red card in the first half.

And once again he was left unhappy with the free kick awarded to Wolves that led to Rayan Ait-Nouri’s equalizer at Turf Moor, which canceled out Jacob Bruun Larsen’s opener.

‘Don’t put me between the referees again!’ Kompany said after the match.

‘But if it is necessary, of course, it would be a problem. If you do a pirouette and fall on your own, without any contact, then it’s just not a foul, I think we can all agree on this.”

“But also the referee is in the best position of all time, a really good position, he sees it, I can see it from three times as far away as he can and for some reason a decision is made out of nowhere.

“Then I look at my own team and how we defend set pieces, it’s always like that, but yeah, it’s a replay and that doesn’t make it any easier.”

Burnley have picked up six points from their last four games but are still six points from safety after Nottingham Forest beat Fulham and Everton picked up a valuable point at Newcastle on Tuesday.

Kompany admitted he is pleased with the progress his team has made in recent weeks and promised they will continue to push for an unlikely escape.

‘I can only praise the players. Today they looked like a Premier League team,” he added.

“This does not give us points or move us up the league. Maybe we belong a little higher if it hadn’t been for so many bad decisions.

“At this point we haven’t earned the right to stay in the Premier League. All we need is a fighting chance, that’s all.

“It was never going to be an easy season, it is not surprising that we are where we are, but what I can guarantee you is that we will continue fighting until the last moment.”
