Jeremy Renner revealed that Robert Downey Jr. kept his spirits up after his 2023 snowplow accident during a new interview with People.
The 53-year-old actor told the outlet that his 58-year-old friend and former co-star checked in on him frequently as he recovered from various injuries he sustained in the incident.
The Hawkeye star – who recently admitted he was ‘kind of excited’ about the death – began by saying the Oscar-winning actor’s FaceTime call felt ‘like we were dating or something’.
Renner went on to state that Downey Jr. also tried to keep his spirits up by humorously commenting on his appearance as he worked through ‘other-worldly pain’.
“He’s like, ‘Dude, the most important thing is that you look good. I don’t care how you feel, as long as you look good, that’s all that matters,” he recalled.

The actor also revealed that the Oppenheimer actor and his wife, Susan Downey, were also big fans of the Mayor Of Kingstown, noting that his friend wanted him to get well soon so he could continue working on the show.
“He’s like, ‘You’ve got to come back to do mayor because we’ve got to see what’s going on.’ His ways are very heartwarming, he said.
Renner and Downey Jr. has starred as Hawkeye and Iron Man in numerous entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the Avengers film series.
The pair also reprized their roles in the 2016 superhero film Captain America: Civil War, where they faced each other.
The Hurt Locker star took a short hiatus from his film career following his snowplow accident, which occurred on New Year’s Day 2023.
According to CNNthe artist was injured after he tried to stop his snowplow from hitting his nephew and ended up being crushed by the vehicle.
Renner was later admitted to a hospital’s intensive care unit, where it was discovered that he had broken several bones in the incident.
The actor continued to document his recovery in several photos and videos shared on his Instagram account.

‘My life is really lean, if that makes sense. There is nothing fat in my life anymore. I don’t have time for that. So there’s something really beautiful about having that superpower,” he said.
Renner then stated that he was strangely grateful for the lessons he learned during his recovery process.
‘There (are) many gifts I have received because of it. When you’re tested physically, emotionally, spiritually, in every way, and then to get through it, it’s something hard to explain,’ he said.
