Two teenagers were reportedly caught driving 71 kilometers over the speed limit that same night, just before another driver overturned their car on the same road.

Police found a white Volvo on its roof in the middle of the road on Hodges Drive in Perth after the 23-year-old driver lost control and crashed at 11.40pm on Friday.

Paramedics took a 27-year-old passenger to Royal Perth Hospital while the driver was uninjured.

Officers said the 23-year-old lost control of the car shortly before hitting a speed sign.

Twenty minutes earlier that night, police stopped two cars driven by teenagers ages 18 and 17.

Police say these teenagers were racing side by side, reaching speeds of 141 kilometers on a road with a speed limit of 70 kilometers.

The teens were caught near Ocean Reef Harbor and both cars were quickly impounded.

Each driver is expected to be charged with reckless driving.

Acting Inspector Adrian Fuller said harassment on the main artery would not be tolerated.

“We will not tolerate these unsafe driving behaviors or people who want to turn public roads into their own drag strip or drag strip,” he said.

“This nature of the offense puts other road users, as well as the offending drivers themselves, at serious risk of injury or death.

“I encourage anyone who witnesses illegal or dangerous driving in the community to report that activity to the police.”
