Beloved Channel 7 presenter announces shock retirement: ‘I have enjoyed the best job in the world

Tim Watson has announced his retirement after three decades at Channel Seven.

The 7NEWS Melbourne sports presenter ended his long and distinguished career during Monday night’s bulletin.

“I’ve had the best job in the world in an incredibly supportive network,” Watson said.

“Surrounded by dedicated and talented people who work hard every day to produce the best news bulletins, it has been a privilege and pleasure to be invited into people’s homes to broadcast sports news.”

The TV veteran was inundated with praise following the shocking statement, with 7NEWS Melbourne director Chris Salter leading the tributes.

“He was a legend on the field and leaves Seven as a legend in the media,” he began.

‘We thank Tim for his professionalism and many years of loyal service. “The viewers will miss him and so will the editorial team.”

Meanwhile, 7NEWS Melbourne presenter Peter Mitchell also offered kind words.

“Having Tim sit next to me for so long during the week has been one of the privileges of my job at Seven. “Not only is he a Bombers legend, but he is also one of the best people I have ever met,” Mitchell said.

“Aside from his talent and on-air ideas, I’m going to deeply miss our behind-the-scenes banter on such a diverse range of topics, from football to Taylor Swift, pizza ovens and toppings, to politics, music and families.

“I wish Tim and his family the best in their new direction.”
