Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to remain in caretaker charge for United’s next three games as they look to complete a deal for Amorim.
With United still working to complete their raid for Amorim, Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of the team for the Carabao Cup match against Leicester on Wednesday night.

The 13-time Premier League champions are through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will visit Tottenham after the north London club beat Manchester City 2-1 on Wednesday night.
After quickly turning their attention to Amorim following the decision to relieve Ten Hag of his duties, it looked like United could get their man through the door in time for their league clash against Chelsea on Sunday.
However, Amorim will now remain at Sporting for their next three matches as he finishes his notice period with the club.
As a result, Van Nistelrooy is in line to remain in charge on an interim basis for United’s next three matches against Chelsea, PAOK and Leicester.
Barring any setbacks, Amorim would officially start at Old Trafford after next month’s international break and be in position for his first United game when they travel to Ipswich on November 24.
