Lindsay Shiver, a housewife accused of ‘murder for hire’, was returned to prison on her birthday after a Bahamian judge criticized her recent appearance on an American daytime show as a ‘spit in the face’ of the justice, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.
Judge Cheryl Grant-Thompson said images of Shiver, who turned 38 on Monday, “parading around in a blue dress” on Good Morning America were a clear violation of the island nation’s strict restrictions on pretrial publicity.
The Oct. 3 segment included an interview with her co-accused bartender boyfriend, Adrien Bethel, in which he mocked claims that they had conspired with alleged hitman Faron Newbold Jr. to kill Shiver’s ex-husband, Robert, 39. years.
Shiver and Bethel blamed ABC for reneging on a contractual agreement not to air any footage before the outcome of their murder conspiracy trial, scheduled for March 2025.
But the pair are headed to Nassau’s notorious Fox Hill prison, one of the Caribbean region’s most gruesome prisons, after Grant-Thompson revoked her bail and ordered police to handcuff Shiver and take her away.
Lindsay Shiver was ordered back to prison in the Bahamas on Monday (her 38th birthday) for her recent appearance on Good Morning America.
Judge Cheryl Grant-Thompson said images of Shiver ‘parading’ in a summer dress in an Oct. 3 segment of Good Morning America were a clear violation of the Caribbean nation’s strict restrictions on pretrial publicity.
The Supreme Court judge wrote in a scathing 14-page ruling obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com: ‘What the defendants have done can be seen by the plaintiff as spitting in the face of justice.
‘If it were the other way around, if the Crown lawyers had proceeded on their own, making unnecessary comments to the international media, the defendants would probably be “up in arms.”
“They would be concerned about their right to a fair trial.”
For a defendant to give an interview at this stage of the proceedings in the United States might be reckless, but it would be perfectly legal. But it is illegal in the Bahamas, which has its roots in the British justice system, where it is considered interference with justice to broadcast anything that might influence a potential juror.
‘Mrs Tremor. …you can see him in the Good Morning America interview parading around in a blue dress on international television, speaking directly about the evidence from the trial,’ the ruling thundered.
He added: ‘The respondents were arrested and charged in the Bahamas. The defendants applied for bail in accordance with the laws of The Bahamas.
‘It cannot now be said that since they are citizens of the United States of America, they will respect the laws and customs of the United States in relation to a pending trial in the Bahamas.
“This court will not accept this blatant disregard for Bahamian law.”
Shiver was further accused of spending the night at various locations and taking several vacations in Florida despite the court placing a GPS tag on him and ordering him to sleep alone at his parents’ home in Abbeville, Alabama.
Unlike in the United States, in the Bahamas it is considered illegal for a defendant to give an interview at this stage of the procedure, which has its roots in the British justice system.
Footage obtained by DailyMail.com shows the blonde housewife being taken to the infamous Fox Hill Prison, one of the grimmest prisons in the Caribbean region.
Shiver, mother of three, plotted to kill ex-husband with lover, Bahamian prosecutors claim
She and Bethel, who was also accused of failing to report to local police on eight occasions, have challenged the decision but will remain behind bars until it is considered by the Court of Appeal, a process that could last several weeks.
Amnesty International has strongly criticized rat-infested Fox Hill due to the squalid conditions and high number of suicides.
The dispute is the latest contentious episode in an often chaotic court process in which Shiver’s trial has been delayed several times just as it was about to begin, the latest date set for March 2025, nearly two years after his arrest. .
Wealthy Georgia couple Lindsay and Robert Shiver once had it all: three wonderful children, a seven-bedroom mansion, a private jet, and a vacation home in Baker’s Bay, an ultra-exclusive enclave in the Bahamas where the likes of Tom Brady and Michael Jordan own properties. .
However, former Auburn football star Robert filed for divorce in April 2023 accusing his wife of cheating, while Shiver responded with claims of “mental and physical cruel treatment.”
Three months later, she was sensationally accused in the Bahamas of conspiring with her new lover Bethel, 28, to have her childhood friend Newbold, 29, murder Robert.
Shiver had allegedly sent Newbold Jr. photos of her ex-husband of 13 years drinking at a bar near Baker’s Bay, along with a WhatsApp message saying “kill him.”
Bethel joined Shiver in telling Good Morning America during the Oct. 3 interview that the trio is completely innocent of a murder-for-hire plot.
Bethel and alleged hitman Faron Newbold (right) were photographed outside the Bahamas Magistrate’s Court in Nassau last November.
The case also revolves around a controversial “confession” in which he admitted to police that he told Bethel that he “wanted to kill” Robert and that Bethel “understood” and “wanted to kill him too.”
However, in the same police interview, Shiver insisted that any talk of murder was simply “said out of anger and frustration,” according to prosecution documents obtained by DailyMail.com.
When Bahamian authorities informed Robert of the alleged threat, he called his wife “manipulative” and accused her of having multiple affairs, according to doctors.
“If something happened to me, Lindsay would get a lot of money,” added the father-of-three, who flew back to the United States while his ex spent 19 days locked up in Fox Hill.
Shiver was eventually released on $100,000 bail and given permission to return to the United States to live in Alabama with an electronic ankle tag that monitored her movements.
She, Bethel and Newbold face up to 60 years in prison if convicted.
But prosecutors will have to persuade the jury that the messages represented a genuine plot against him, rather than the three friends simply letting off steam.
Shiver, who was in the middle of a divorce, was arrested in July 2023 for allegedly plotting to kill her husband Robert while vacationing at their family home in the sunny Abaco Islands of the Bahamas.
Shiver enters a courtroom in Nassau, Bahamas, on August 9, 2023
Robert still lives in the couple’s marital home in Thomasville, Georgia, where their hostile divorce and custody battle has stalled due to the Nassau process.
It could be a long wait, as criminal cases are often plagued by delays in the Bahamas’ overloaded justice system, where it typically takes three years or more to reach trial.
An Alabama native, Shiver graduated from Auburn University, where the two met in 2007 while Robert was captain of the football team.
Robert signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent, but was released due to roster cuts before the 2009 season and eventually became executive vice president of a life insurance company.
He is currently dating reality TV star Savannah Chrisley, 27, and has never spoken publicly about his ex-wife.
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com in August 2023, Bethel declared her love for Shiver and said her marriage was in ruins long before he came on the scene.
‘None of us have anything to hide. “People take everything literally and defame us,” he told us.
