Liberals have attacked Donald Trump after he vowed to crack down on election “cheaters” if he wins in November.
The former president threatened to attack “lawyers, political operatives, donors, illegal voters and corrupt election officials” in a speech at Truth Social.
This came after he reiterated his false claims of voter fraud during his failed 2020 campaign for office.
His comments infuriated left-wing commentators, who accused the presidential candidate of “publicly promising to lock up his political enemies.”
“I, along with many attorneys and legal scholars, am watching the sanctity of the 2024 Presidential Election very closely because I know, better than most, the rampant cheating and betrayal that the Democrats have carried out in the 2020 Presidential Election. It was a disgrace to our Nation!” Trump wrote on Saturday.
Donald Trump vows to crack down on election cheaters if he wins in November
‘Therefore, the 2024 election, in which votes have only just begun to be cast, will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people who CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, including lengthy prison sentences so that this depravation of justice does not happen again.’
‘We cannot allow our country to continue to degrade into a Third World nation. AND WE WON’T!’
‘Those involved in unscrupulous conduct will be sought, captured and prosecuted at levels, sadly, never before seen in our country.’
Among those who responded to her promise was Kamala Harris’ spokesman, Ammar Moussa.
“Donald Trump told us from day one that he wanted to be a dictator. He said he wanted to do away with the Constitution,” he wrote in X.
“Now he publicly promises to jail his political enemies. And now he has the plan and the Supreme Court to allow him to do whatever he wants. Take him seriously.”
Prominent Democratic attorney Marc E. Elias, who recently joined Harris’ team, criticized Trump, calling him “desperate.”
Prominent Democratic lawyer Marc E. Elias, who recently joined Harris’ team, also joined in the criticism.
“Donald Trump is desperate because he is going to lose this election,” he wrote.
“I want to be clear: We will not allow Donald Trump to intimidate us. We will not allow him to suppress the vote. We will not allow him to subvert the election. We will not allow him to cheat. We will fight back and we will WIN.”
Meanwhile, liberal journalists including CNN’s Edward-Isaac Dovere and NBC Capitol Hill reporter Garret Haake expressed concern.
“Just days ago, Trump said he had lost the 2020 election by a hair. Now he is spending Saturday afternoon promising “long prison terms” for anyone responsible for his loss, if he wins again in November,” Dovere said.
‘In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Donald Trump escalates his threats to prosecute his political opponents, now promising “long-term prison sentences” for anyone who “cheats” in the 2020 or 2024 elections,’ Haake wrote on X.
Ammar Moussa warned that Trump’s threats must be taken “seriously” and accused him of aspiring to become a dictator
Trump is currently facing two criminal charges for alleged election interference, which he denies.
He is accused of pressuring Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to try to find additional votes to overturn the election result in the state.
He has also been accused of participating in a plot to send fake electors to the Capitol to fraudulently declare him the winner in several states and pressure his vice president Mike Pence to accept them in place of the electors certified by each state.
