Raphael Varane has officially signed for Serie A club Como following his departure from Manchester United this summer.
The 2018 World Cup winner left Old Trafford as a free agent on June 30 after the Red Devils opted not to activate an extension on his contract.
Varane’s departure is one of several significant changes at Manchester United this summer, with co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS revamping the club’s staff structure and bringing in new stars Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee for a combined £88.5m so far.
The Frenchman arrives in Como just a week after former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona player Cesc Fabregas was announced as the club’s new manager following their promotion to the Italian top flight last season.
After more than two decades out of Serie A, Como clinched promotion by sealing an automatic spot on the final day of the season.

On signing for his new club, Varane said: ‘At first I was curious about what the project was about and then I immediately saw that it was special, different to all the others I had been offered, so I wanted to know more.
‘The more I learned about the project, the more interesting it became and it gave me a different perspective on what I wanted to do.
‘Once the project came up, it went straight to the top of the list and we managed to close the deal. I’m very happy. There’s a lot to do and it’s very exciting. I have a lot of experience at the highest level and now being able to share that knowledge and help a club develop and hopefully reach the top is super exciting.
‘I’m meeting Cesc again, but this time not as a rival. I’m very happy, I really like his playing philosophy and his passion for football. When we spoke it was very easy to understand each other, so I hope we get very positive results. In any case, I come with a lot of humility to help the team and the club to grow.’
