CAMDEN, NJ — The Sixers are set to add another veteran point guard behind Tyrese Maxey.

Reggie Jackson plans to join the team after opting out of his contract with the Hornets, a source confirmed to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Adrian Wojnarowsk from ESPNI was the first to report the news.

Jackson, 34, played in all 82 games last season for the Nuggets and averaged 10.2 points, 3.8 assists and 1.9 rebounds.

He won an NBA championship as a member of the Nuggets in the 2022-23 season. Before that, Jackson was teammates with Paul George on the Clippers.

Jackson moved to Charlotte in early July as part of The six-team deal which included the The Sixers send Buddy Hield to the Warriors in a sign-and-trade deal. Once Jackson clears waivers, he will be free to sign with the Sixers.

The Sixers also have Kyle Lowry, 38 years old and 35 years Eric Gordon as backup guards. They selected a 20-year-old guard who is much younger than any of those players this year. Duke product, Jared McCain.

After signing Jackson, the Sixers will have 13 players under standard NBA contractswhich is two below the maximum.

They’ve filled their three spots on two-way contracts with Justin Edwards, David Jones and Jeff Dowtin Jr.
