Jude Bellingham has been suspended by UEFA for one match and fined €30,000 for his controversial gesture against Slovakia.

The decision means he is available for the crucial Euro 2024 quarter-final between England and Switzerland on Saturday.

European soccer’s governing body has launched an investigation into Bellingham’s gesture during Sunday’s win over Slovakia, in which he pretended to grab his genitals.

UEFA has written to Bellingham to ask for an explanation for his actions, while the organisation has also contacted the Slovak Football Association for its views on the alleged infringement. The gesture is alleged to have been directed at the Slovak bench.

Bellingham is believed to have stood by his claims that the gesture was an “inside joke”.

After the game, when footage of the gesture emerged, Bellingham tweeted: “An inside joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for how the Slovakia team played tonight.”

However, Bellingham, 21, has been hit with a fine and a one-match ban for 12 months according to UEFA.
