A 47-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in the famous opal mining town of Coober Pedy, South Australia.
Emergency services were called to Hutchinson St at around 5.45pm on Tuesday following reports of the stabbing.
A 46-year-old Indulkana man was found with a stab wound to the chest and taken to hospital, where he later died.
Police arrested a 47-year-old man from Coober Pedy, who was known to the victim.
South Australian Police said major crime detectives were due to fly from Adelaide to Coober Pedy on Wednesday morning.
Coober Pedy is 846 km north of Adelaide on the Stuart Highway and is known as “the opal capital of the world”.
They are not looking for any other suspects involved in the stabbing.
The man has been charged with murder and will appear in the Coober Pedy Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
