The hunt for a missing man after a boating accident on a Queensland dam has ended in tragedy after divers pulled a body from the water on Monday morning.

The 40-year-old father went missing after he fell from a wrecked boat with his daughter, 9, on Sunday at Kinchant Dam, 35km west of Mackay.

The girl was later pulled safely from the water, but her father could not be found.

Water police and specialist divers were tasked with searching for her father.

One of the officers in charge of the search operation confirmed that the man’s body was found sometime on Monday morning.

A family of six – including four children – was on board the boat. The mother and three other children all made it to shore safely.

“Obviously (the family) are very upset about what has happened and we can only imagine the trauma they are going through,” Senior Sergeant Trevor Robson said.

“You wouldn’t wish that on your worst enemy.”

The dam, which is a popular site for recreational activities such as boating, water sports and fishing, is closed.
