A woman has been charged after allegedly throwing an Australian Bulldog off a cliff inside a kennel more than a year ago.

A hiker had heard the dog howling on the morning of January 23 last year, at the foot of a cliff near Clive Bisell Drive in Mount Ousley, near Wollongong, south of Sydney.

The animal was found seriously injured inside the kennel and appeared to be “emaciated and in very poor health.”

Emergency services and the SES launched a rescue mission to recover the dog, but he was sadly put down at a local vet due to his serious injuries.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested at a home in Horsley, Wollongong, on Friday morning.

She was accused of torturing, beating and causing the death of an animal.

“Police will allege the kennel had been thrown off the cliff overnight,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“The police seized the kennel, subjected it to a forensic examination and began investigations.”

The woman was granted bail and will appear at Wollongong Local Court on May 14.
