- Football fans were left stunned after the double sin.
- Both sides almost came to blows before making the decision.
The rugby league world was left furious by a double sin that arose from a simple head massage during the Blues’ historic 38-18 victory over Queensland at the MCG on Wednesday night.
Both teams were down one player in the second half after a fight broke out following a big hit from Spencer Leniu on Jaydn Su’A, which forced a takedown.
The Blues players were quick to celebrate and Liam Martin rubbed Su’A’s head after the error.
The fight came shortly after a similar incident in which Stephen Crichton was penalized for a tackle on Daly Cherry-Evans.
Referee Ashley Klein intervened to warn both captains that he would send the players off if that happened again.
So after the second hand-to-hand combat, Klein began to ask the Bunker who had run in.
“Don’t send anyone away,” Andrew Johns said in a comment.
“I don’t know what’s happened here… let’s play football guys,” added Queensland legend Cameron Smith.
Blues striker Liam Martin rubbed Jaydn Su’A’s head after he lost the ball in a tackle, and NSW fans were left stunned by what happened next.
Martin was identified as the instigator and Klein claimed he started by “rubbing the head” at Su’A.
“So Liam opted to rub his head when we saw hooks, we saw lift and throw, we saw Latrell punch someone, but you rub someone’s head and they throw the sin at you,” Johns laughed.
Smith couldn’t believe his eyes either.
‘Sin to the trash for that? Come on,’ she said.
Queensland enforcer Pat Carrigan soon followed Martin for a time in the bin.
Footy fans were as shocked as the commentators by what they were witnessing, and angry Maroons fans were perplexed that Martin had not been sent off for an incident earlier in the match.
‘Explain how Liam Martin wasn’t sent off for that dangerous tackle, but for that. “Can we be serious?” posted one on X.
‘Liam Martin’s spear tackles someone = no container. Latrell almost kills Coates = no container. He trashes the ground from Martin and some defense from his teammate Carrigan = binning.
Martin, who was sent off, was lucky not to be temporarily sidelined for a poor tackle early in the game.
Football fans were stunned as two players were sent off the field following the incident.
“Liam Martin should have been in the trash 3 different times,” said another.
However, New South Wales football fans were shocked that he was sent off the ground for something as harmless as touching another player’s head.
‘Do you want to avoid some of that tumult and choose a head massage? Give me a break haha,’ an X user posted.
“Ashley Klein should be fired immediately,” another responded.
‘Without bin for a head massage, this game is becoming a joke, it goes offline. Just for the record, I’m a Blues supporter,” posted a third.
