Whoopi Goldberg mocked for claiming she’s struggling financially in latest anti-Trump rant

Whoopi Goldberg claimed she and her family were going through a tough time on The View this week, and was mocked for describing herself as 'working class American' despite having a huge fortune

Whoopi Goldberg claims she understands Trump voters because she’s also struggling financially — despite owning a $16 million real estate portfolio.

The comedian, 69, cried about poverty on The View this week when she lamented that she is a “working person” and that her “child has to feed her family.”

“I appreciate that people are having a hard time, and so do I – I work for a living,” Goldberg – real name Caryn Johnson – said. “If I had all the money in the world, I wouldn’t be here.”

But the Ghost and Sister Act star immediately raised eyebrows with the comment, when The Sun reported in 2022 that she was making $8 million a year just for hosting The View.

The EGOT also owns at least four fantastic houses; mansions in New Jersey and Upstate New York, a SoHo loft in New York and a colonial-style property in Connecticut.

She sold her Pacific Palisades mansion in 2022 for $8.8 million, netting her a tidy profit of $6 million.

Goldberg — one of only 21 people to have won an Emmy, Oscar, Golden Globe and Tony Award — even suggested that her descendants are struggling too.

“I’m a working person,” she continued in her rant. “And my child has to feed her family, and my great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family.

“I know it’s hard out there, but I also know there’s a lot of things where we just said, ‘No, we’re just going this way,'” she said, rubbing her hands together.

Goldberg’s daughter Alexandrea Martin, 50, is a successful Hollywood producer who lives in a $4 million Calabasas mansion.

“I love what she did, yeah,” Goldberg said, apparently talking about Kamala Harris’ doomed candidacy.

“But we talk to people all the time who say this is bothering them. But what bothers everyone should not be the thing that endangers 85 percent of other people.”

The comments drew responses from viewers who were quick to point out Goldberg’s reported net worth at around $45 million, labeling the Oscar-winning actress as “tone deaf.”

“Isn’t she helping her family?” someone wondered. “I know if I was worth $45 million, my family would never know what it’s like to wrestle again.”

Goldberg also counts this $3 million New Jersey mansion in her real estate portfolio, with amenities like a pool and gym spread across 425 acres.

“She has to be one of the most tone-deaf celebrities I’ve ever seen,” said another.

“I really don’t understand how anyone could actually look at this lady other than to mock her.”

Goldberg comes from a humble background, having grown up in a Manhattan housing project – and she is self-made.

Her career took off like a rocket in the mid-’80s, after a successful stint as a stand-up comic yielded a slew of Hollywood offers.

Goldberg played memorable roles in a string of iconic blockbusters, but says she retired from acting at the age of 55 after the good scripts started to dry up.

And since making her fortune, a critic of her rant argued this week that her attitude is “the whole problem with the elitist Democratic party.”

“They think they can’t compete, even though they’re worth millions of dollars.”

Goldberg has made no secret of her millions in the past, making headlines in 2018 when she put a stunning Pacific Palisades mansion on the market for $8.8 million – after selling it for just $2.55 million in 1994 bought.

The art deco home had an impressive curved swimming pool, five large bathrooms and en suite bedrooms with ocean views.

Goldberg later moved to New Jersey to escape the hustle and bustle of New York City, purchasing a sprawling $3 million mansion.

The estate spans 425 acres and features a pool and gym, while still being close enough to the city for Goldberg to commute to for The View.
