EXCLUSIVE
A serial rapist who has spent almost his entire adult life in jail was caught watching hardcore pornography after asking an officer overseeing his release from prison to help him delete his phone’s browsing history.
Police later discovered that Wayne Wilmot’s internet searches included “very, very, very extreme Asian threesome porn” and “16 men for one Asian girl”.
Wilmot, now 51, was part of a gang that kidnapped, raped and murdered bank teller Janine Balding in September 1988 and has spent all but 20 months behind bars since then.
He was released on parole in October 1996, but committed further assaults against female victims and continued to commit sexual crimes against other inmates while in prison.
In April, a High Court judge declared Wilmot a high-risk sex offender and made him the subject of an interim extended supervision order (ESO).
An ESO can be used to provide ongoing monitoring of a high-risk sexual or violent offender when their prison sentence has ended and they are allowed to leave.
One of the conditions of Wilmot’s order was that he not access, possess or view pornography, including restricted X18+ material.
Wilmot was released in June and acquired a mobile phone the following day.

During the first five days of his release, he used the phone to conduct searches “that he considered appropriate”, including contact details for Service NSW, according to court documents.
From that point on, Wilmot began searching for pornography, starting with a simple request for “porn site.”
Two weeks after Wilmot’s release, he asked a Departmental Supervising Officer (DSO) to make a routine visit to his residence that ‘Look at my phone.’
“The defendant asked the DSO to delete his browsing history because he thought it would make his phone work better,” a police fact sheet states.
‘While attempting to assist the defendant, the DSO noticed that there were several tabs open showing that he had visited Pornhub.’
Police reviewed the predator’s Google history and found that his searches had increased rapidly from an initial search for “pornographic site” he made a week after he was released.
Among the first search terms Wilmot entered were “hardcore porn videos,” “extreme hardcore porn videos,” and “Asian porn.”
Wayne Wilmot was 15 when he and a group of four others aged 14, 15, 16 and 22 travelled to Sutherland train station in Sydney’s south and abducted Janine Balding (above) at knifepoint.
It continued with ‘very, very extreme sex porn videos’, ‘hardcore Asian threesome porn videos’ and ‘very, very hardcore 14 year old Asian teen porn’.
By the time she was done, Wilmot was searching for “6 naked men for one Asian girl,” “very, very, very extreme Asian porn threesome,” and “16 men for one Asian girl.”
Wilmot was arrested and pleaded guilty to seeking and viewing 18+ X-rated pornographic material in breach of his interim supervision order.
On Tuesday, Wilmot appeared via audio-visual link at Waverley Local Court, where Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge jailed him for a fixed term of 18 months.
Wilmot’s lawyer, Dev Bhutani, had suggested a sentence of around six months, arguing that a “short and severe prison term” would deter his client from violating the order again.
“Since he was 15, he has been detained almost continuously,” Bhutani said.
Mrs. Milledge: “From what I’ve read of your history, that’s where you belong.”
Wilmot has since filed an appeal against the severity of the sentence, which will be heard in the District Court.
There was public outrage when it was revealed that Wilmot would receive taxpayer-funded support through National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) when he left prison in June.
Wayne Wilmot, 51, has been charged with breaching his supervision order by viewing pornographic material.
This support included a total of 24 hours of assistance each week to improve their “daily life” as well as their “social, economic and community participation.”
Wilmot was 15 years old when and a group of four others aged 14, 15, 16 and 22 travelled to Sutherland train station in Sydney’s south and abducted Ms Balding at knifepoint.
The 20-year-old was forced into a car driven by Wilmot and raped in the back seat before being driven to an isolated area of western Sydney, where she was sexually assaulted again.
Wilmot and the other 15-year-old – a girl with intellectual disabilities – were not actively involved when Ms Balding was dragged into a dam and drowned.
Judge Peter Newman, who sentenced the gang, accepted that Wilmot “knew nothing of his decision to kill her afterwards” and was not involved in the murder.
He ruled that Wilmot had not raped Ms Balding but was guilty because of his involvement in the joint criminal enterprise.
Wilmot was jailed for nine years and four months for a range of offences including sexual intercourse without consent, detention with intent to obtain advantage and robbery in company.
