Virgil van Dijk has outlined his future career plans with a major update amid uncertainty over extending the Liverpool captain’s stay at the club.
The 33-year-old has just entered the final year of his Liverpool contract and talks have been ongoing as the Reds look to secure his immediate future.
Van Dijk will be free to speak to other European clubs in January, meaning the Reds have the race to commit their captain to a new contract or face losing him for free next summer.
Many top clubs would likely be interested in tempting Van Dijk away from Anfield and the world-class centre-back has now provided an update on his current situation.

Reds manager Arne Slot is likely to hope Van Dijk signs a new contract at Liverpool to extend his stay.
“In both teams (Holland and Liverpool) I am still Virgil van Dijk, the great leader!” he said.
“And I want to continue like this for the next two years. I’m human, I have emotions too. You start thinking about all kinds of things. Especially right after a game like the elimination (against England) in the last minute.
‘I also understand that it was not clear what my position was in all this, because after the match I was very disappointed and full of emotions.
Van Dijk is currently with the Dutch national team and will play for Germany on Tuesday.
‘Maybe it gave the impression that it was my last international match. I had doubts that night and I hinted at it.
“It’s great that the next day I went on vacation, I was able to be with my children, with my family, which is the most important thing in my life. I was able to share it and then very quickly things calmed down,” he added.
Van Dijk is expected to feature against Germany on Tuesday night before returning to Liverpool for the resumption of the new Premier League season.
Arne Slot’s side remain unbeaten after three games and kept alive their 100 per cent winning start to the season by beating rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford in the final game before the international break.
