Viewers are horrified to spot disturbing details of Scott Peterson’s body language in Netflix’s true crime docuseries about the murder of his wife Laci

The murder of a 27-year-old mother-to-be becomes the subject of a Netflix true-crime series: American Murder: Laci Peterson.

Laci Peterson, who was eight months pregnant, disappeared from her home in Modesto, California, on Christmas Eve 2002.

Tragically, four months later, the bodies of Laci and her unborn child were found washed ashore.

Her husband Scott, now 51, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife and second-degree murder in the death of their unborn child. However, Scott, who is serving a life sentence for murder, has always maintained his innocence.

Now viewers have spotted a disturbing detail of Scott’s body language in the Netflix series about his trial.

On Reddit, one viewer said they were “horrified” by Scott’s facial expressions during the investigation and trial, saying he appeared to be “smiling” constantly.

“He seems completely indifferent and oblivious to his reality. I am so horrified and disgusted that I want to vent my feelings here.”

Many were quick to comment, saying they were “scared” by his lack of emotion over his missing wife.

One person said: “I’m really scared by the lack of emotion on his face and body language. I think his brain should be examined scientifically, it’s a severe case of psychopathy. I think he’s been pretending to be a normal human being his whole life.”

Another agreed, saying: “I hated hearing him talk. He didn’t show any emotion.”

Someone else added: ‘In the Peacock documentary that came out today, he has the weirdest smiles at all times. He’s so psychotic he doesn’t know how to have normal expressions.

“It’s almost like someone told him to smile more because he looks guilty when he doesn’t smile. It really gives me the creeps. It’s a very strange and unnatural expression.”

Meanwhile, a fourth added: “It’s like I’ve been trying to learn how to have emotions for the last 20 years.”

Scott had been married to Laci for five years when she disappeared on December 24, 2002, after walking her dog.

Laci, 27, was eight months pregnant with her first child when she disappeared. Her remains, as well as the fetus of her unborn son (whom the couple had named Conner), were found in different locations in the San Francisco Bay Area more than three months later.

Laci was first reported missing by her husband, who initially claimed she had been playing golf, when he returned home in Modesto, California, to find it empty and her dog running around the backyard dragging its leash.

However, Scott told his neighbor a different story, claiming he was fishing 90 miles away on his recently purchased boat at Berkeley Marina.

He reported Laci missing to the police and called his mother-in-law to tell her that his pregnant wife was nowhere to be found.

The remains of the mother and son were discovered just a day apart in March 2003, more than three months after Laci disappeared, not far from where Scott said he was fishing.

The body was reportedly missing its head, neck, forearms and part of a leg.

And a pathologist testified at a preliminary hearing that the body’s exposure to salt water and marine life left investigators unable to determine the cause of death.

Scott had initially led the search for his wife, but was arrested months later when her body washed up on the shore.

He has always maintained that she was killed by a panicked robber after catching them ransacking the couple’s home.

However, a jury found him guilty of murder, deciding that his motive was an affair he was having at the time with Amber Frey, a 20-year-old massage therapist who did not know he was married.

Scott was sentenced to death, but the decision was overturned in 2020 by the California Supreme Court and he was instead sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Scott’s request for a new trial was rejected in 2022.

Prosecutors told the court that Scott wanted to escape married life and did not want the responsibility of becoming a father.

He claimed he killed her at her Modesto home before throwing her body – and the baby she was carrying – from his boat.

He was convicted of first-degree murder of his wife and second-degree murder of his unborn child.

Some members of Scott’s family have echoed his claims of innocence, but his own sister has branded him a “sociopath.”

“I don’t know why she did this,” he said in a previous interview with Dr. Oz. “Laci was the sweetest, kindest person, so I just don’t understand it.”

“We miss her all the time. Her presence has been stolen from us.

“His upbringing… I don’t know if that had anything to do with it. I’m not a doctor, but I believe in sociopathy and I think he’s a sociopath.”

In a Peacock documentary, Face to Face with Scott Peterson, the now 51-year-old has spoken publicly for the first time since his arrest in 2003, standing by his long-held belief that a group of burglars is responsible for his wife’s death.

In a video call from jail, she told interviewer Shareen Anderson: “There was a robbery across the street from our house. There were a lot of people involved. And I think Laci went there to see what was going on, and that’s when they took her.”

Two men were arrested and pleaded guilty to the crime, but detectives in charge of the case ruled out any link to Laci, believing the duo burglarized the home two days after she disappeared on Dec. 26.

Peterson, her family and a contingent of her supporters have long argued that police were too quick to rule out robbers’ involvement in Laci’s disappearance.

One witness, who police have consistently said lacked credibility because the details of his recollections varied, said he saw three men in the burglarized house who did not match the physical appearances of the two men later convicted of the crime, Steven Todd and Donald Pearce.

He also said he saw a pickup truck parked in the driveway. Police said they initially thought the truck was white, but later said it could have been brown or tan.

Peterson and his supporters argue that Van could hold the key to Laci’s death.

He said: ‘Todd and Pearce, the two we know, burgled the house opposite. We don’t know who else was involved in that burglary. We know there were others.

“They had no desire to investigate the evidence that was before them. They simply chose to ignore it.”

Peterson’s theory is based on several key pieces of testimony that his team says should have been explored further during the investigation.

This includes a witness who claims to have seen a pregnant woman “shoved into a van” on the day Laci disappeared, and a prison officer who heard rumors in prison that she had confronted burglars at her neighbor’s home.

But detectives immediately responded, saying they had no specific recollection of the first report and that the corrections officer “retracted his statement” at the time.

The latest piece of evidence, Peterson said, was a burned-out van found about a mile from his home the day after Laci disappeared. Detectives ruled out any connection to the case at the time.

“We want some DNA tests to be carried out, so we will submit the corresponding request. We want more tests, so we will request them as well,” he said.
