Urgent search launched after 28-year-old man allegedly fled police custody

An urgent search has been launched for a man who allegedly escaped from police custody more than 12 hours ago.

Mulla Altinok, 28, was last seen on Meredith Street in Bankstown, western Sydney, about 6.30am on Saturday.

Altinok remains a fugitive and an investigation has been launched to find him.

He is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, about 165cm tall, with a solid build and a shaved head.

He also has numerous tattoos on his upper body.

Altinok was last seen wearing a black long-sleeved t-shirt with a white collar, gray sweatpants and no shoes.

Police have urged anyone who sees Altinok not to approach him and to call triple zero immediately.
