A teenager has been charged with a series of offences over the alleged stabbing of a university student five weeks ago.
Melvern Kurniawan, 22, was allegedly stabbed in the neck and back with a kitchen knife by a 14-year-old boy at the University of Sydney’s Camperdown campus on July 2.
He was rushed to the nearby Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition and was later discharged.
Her alleged attacker was arrested near the same hospital, where she has since received medical treatment.
The teenager was charged by officers from the New South Wales Joint Anti-Terrorism Team on Tuesday.
The charges include causing serious bodily injury to a person with intent to murder and three counts of damaging property by arson/explosion.
Police will also allege in court that he had deliberately set fire to rubbish bins at two locations in Sydney’s inner west the previous day.
The teenager’s case was heard in a juvenile court on Tuesday, where he was formally denied bail to reappear on October 1.

Mr Kurniawan is a research assistant at the Centre for Brain and Mind at the University of Sydney, where he is… studying a BA in Psychology with Honours.
He is conducting research on dementia, cognition and sleep.
“I hope to use my experience and knowledge of the relationship between the brain, behavior and psychology to help people in a variety of settings,” her LinkedIn page states.
The JCTT is made up of members of the New South Wales Police Force, the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation and the New South Wales Crime Commission.
Investigations into the alleged stabbing continue.

The charges came after Australia’s terror alert was raised from “possible” to “probable” on Monday.
While it has not been raised due to a specific incident, it is understood there have been eight incidents in Australia investigated by security officials for alleged terrorism or possible terrorist links.
